When a light fitting comes with a pull chord and is described as 'Switched', this means the fitting can be turned off at the fitting itself and not just by the master switch in the room itself. If a pull chord is undesired then the fitting can be set to the on position and then have the chord cut off or withdrawn back inside the fitting so it is not shown externally.
